Distilled Water is ...
Distilled water is also known as steam-distilled
water. This is the water that has been heated to the boiling
point which is 212 degrees fahrenheit or 100 degrees centigrade
at sea level. This steam is then cooled and condensed back
into liquid form as pure water. All the impurities that
were originally in water remain as residue (scale and sediment)
in the boiling vessel when the water boils off. These sediments
are then removed during periodic maintenance.
The process of distillation kills
biological contaminants such as bacteria, parasites, cysts,
viruses, removes organic and inorganic chemicals, heavy
metals, volatile gases, and other contaminants. Therefore,
this is almost a complete water filtration system. In addition,
the water produced by this system is pure and contains no
solids, minerals, or trace elements. Steam distillation
is the only water purification method that removes
virtually all contaminants. This can be termed as the
most efficient system as far as filtration is concerned.
